The Rochester International Film Festival, the world’s oldest continuously-held short film festival, has been produced each year since 1959 by Movies on a Shoestring, Inc. Each festival includes a wide variety of narrative films, documentaries, and animations submitted by independent filmmakers from all parts of the world.

All filmmakers are invited to submit entries for consideration. Each film selected for the festival is awarded our distinctive Shoestring Trophy. Since films are made to be seen, we offer appreciative, movie-wise audiences to view your work at the Dryden Theatre, George Eastman House International Museum of Film and Photography in Rochester, NY.

The Best of the Fest, RIFF’s permanent traveling collection, includes the most popular films from previous festivals based on audience surveys taken at each show. Films from this collection may be borrowed for non commercial use.

The Macabre World of Lavender Williams received an Audience Choice award at the International Student Film & Video Festival of the Beijing Film Academy, Beijing, China.

The Film & Video Festival was created to provide an occasion for the students and teaching faculty at BFA and at some other Film and TV schools in China to appreciate and learn from the works of students from all over the world. The festival seeks to strengthen personal and professional exchanges between Film and TV schools around the world and to encourage and support the next genneration of Film and Television professionals. The festival advocates personality, art exploration, technical innovation and self-expression.

Winner Caucus Foundation Gold Circle Award

The Macabre World of Lavender Williams has received the Caucus Foundation Gold Circle Award for Outstanding Student Film.

The Caucus Foundation, a not-for-profit 501[c]3 organization, was established in the year 2000 to promote diveristy in the entertainment industry, in terms of both content and personnel behind the camera. The Foundation works towards this goal by helping to launch the professional careers of student filmmakers (television, film and interactive) from groups currently underrepresented in the industry.

Panavision New Filmmaker Grant has been awarded to The Macabre World of Lavender Williams

Panavision’s New Filmmaker Program is an ongoing grant program. Through this program, Panavision donates the use of 16mm or 35mm motion picture camera equipment to filmmakers who are making Public Service Announcements, Showcase Reels, “Low-Budget” Independent Features or any other type of Short, Non-Profit film.
